Scope of Conference — As2024

The 9th International Congress and Exhibition on Arsenic in the Environment was held at KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, from 20 to 24 October 2024.

The congress series offers an international, multi- and interdisciplinary discussion platform for research and innovation aimed towards a holistic solution to the challenges posed by the environmental toxin arsenic, with global societal impact. It has focused on cutting edge and breakthrough research in physical, chemical, toxicological, medical, agricultural and other specific issues on arsenic across a broader environmental realm.

Congress themes

  • Theme 1 — Arsenic in natural soil and water systems. Occurrence, geochemistry and the conditions under which arsenic mobilises into groundwater.
  • Theme 2 — Arsenic in agriculture and food production. Uptake by crops, irrigation with contaminated groundwater, and propagation through the food chain.
  • Theme 3 — Health impacts of arsenic. Carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic effects, exposure assessment and epidemiology.
  • Theme 4 — Technologies for arsenic removal from water. Treatment at utility and community scale, including the innovations that have taken Dutch drinking water below 1 µg/L.
  • Theme 5 — Sustainable mitigation and management for sustainable development. Safe-water programmes, policy, financing and the private-sector capacity needed to reach SDG 6.

Who the congress is for

The congress attracts professionals involved in different segments of interdisciplinary research on arsenic in an open forum, and strengthens relations between academia, research institutions, government and non-governmental agencies, industries, and civil society organisations, to share an optimal ambience for exchange of knowledge.
