Our mission
ISGSD is committed to work for minimizing groundwater pollution and to advocate the effective use of groundwater for better health and sustainable livelihood.
Our focus
The ISGSD technically focuses on groundwater, while recognising the importance of integrated water resources management. Groundwater is where the largest number of people meet water quality as a personal risk: a shallow well is drilled once and drunk from for decades, often with no treatment between the aquifer and the glass.
How the society works
Through the development of a wide range of services for the professional groundwater community, ISGSD provides a significant contribution to better development and sustainable management of the groundwater resources of the world. That work runs along three lines:
- The congress series. The biennial “Arsenic in the Environment” congress and exhibition has run since 2006 and remains the field’s standing meeting point — geochemists, hydrogeologists, toxicologists, agronomists, engineers and the agencies that have to act on their findings, in one room.
- Publications. Proceedings and special publications carry the congress outcomes into the literature, and the society supports dissemination of high-quality research through the International Journal of Groundwater for Sustainable Development.
- Chapters. National and thematic chapters embed the society’s agenda in the regional and topical agendas where the work actually gets funded and done.
